HELP BUILD NORTHERN ONTARIO

MSN Contracting is seeking an Estimator / Project Coordinator to help take construction projects from opportunity to execution.

In this role, you will prepare accurate estimates, subcontractor packages, and competitive proposals, coordinate project requirements, and help ensure a smooth transition from tender award to project completion. Working closely with leadership, project managers, site supervisors, clients, consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors, you will play an important role in keeping projects organized, aligned, and set up for success.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Estimating and Pre-Construction

  •  Review tender documents, drawings, specifications, addenda, and project requirements.
  • Complete quantity takeoffs and prepare detailed estimates for labour, materials, equipment, transportation, subcontractors, and other project costs.
  • Obtain and evaluate pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Attend site visits, pre-bid meetings, and client meetings as required.
  • Identify scope gaps, risks, conflicting information, and opportunities within bid documents.
  • Prepare competitive quotations, tender submissions, technical proposals, work plans, and supporting documents.
  • Clearly outline assumptions, exclusions, and project-specific requirements.
  • Maintain organized estimating files, historical pricing information, and supplier and subcontractor records.
  • Review estimates and bid strategies with company leadership before submission.


Project Coordination

  • Prepare project turnover information following contract award, including scope, budget, schedule, assumptions, and identified risks.
  • Participate in project kick-off meetings, site walks, and early-stage planning.
  • Assist with project schedules, procurement, documentation, and resource coordination.
  • Coordinate communication among project managers, supervisors, clients, consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Assist with tracking RFIs, submittals, purchase orders, change requests, and other project documents.
  • Monitor project costs and compare actual performance against the original estimate.
  • Identify and communicate cost variances, scope changes, scheduling concerns, and emerging project risks.
  • Support progress reporting, billing documentation, and project closeout requirements.
  • Gather feedback from completed work to improve future estimates and project planning.

 


WHAT YOU BRING

  • Experience in construction estimating, project coordination, project management, or a related construction role.
  • The ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Experience completing quantity takeoffs and developing labour, material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
  • A practical understanding of construction sequencing and job-site operations.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Careful attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Clear and professional written and verbal communication.
  • The ability to build positive working relationships with clients, consultants, field employees, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other standard business applications.
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to project sites as required.
  • Legal entitlement to work in Canada.


The Following Would Be Considered Assets

  • Five or more years of estimating or project coordination experience.
  • Post-secondary education or trade certification in construction management, engineering, architectural technology, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in mining, industrial, commercial, institutional, or civil construction.
  • Experience estimating concrete, earthworks, structural, mechanical, piping, millwrighting, welding, or scaffolding work.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, construction contracts, or union labour pricing.
  • Experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, or estimating and project management software.
